Laid out in 1888

Berryton was laid out in 1888 and named for its two founders, George Washington Berry and his son George Webster Berry. The first post office opened the same year. Berryton is close enough to Topeka for commuters but still feels like the country, with gravel roads, pastures and wide yards. A railroad stop

In 1912 Berryton was described as a small village and station on the Missouri Pacific Railroad nine miles southeast of Topeka, with a population of 75 in 1910.
